Hello.
It’s hard to believe that this is the first time that I have posted on the España Photography blog (or any other non-lastsfor3poststhendisappears-Mike blog).
Sometimes, it can be a little intimidating to be married to an artist, especially when they do professionally something that you have always done yourself. I’ve loved photography for as long as I can remember, ever since my Grandparents gave my brother, Shane, a polaroid camera for his birthday, and I was old enough to steal it. For a while, in high school, I even wanted to be a photojournalist (in addition to being a world famous poet and a teacher…which did I end up being?). Ever since Heather started España Photography, I’ve wanted to take pictures with her. It’s shocking that we’ve been together for so long, married for 2 years on July 15th (please shower us with gifts! :-), and we’ve never really taken pictures together…until this week, that is.
“Let’s go for a texture hunt,” Heather said, “It’ll be fun!”
“Sure,” I replied, half groggy and summer vacation-headed.
So we headed to Mississippi Avenue in Portland, and did some of my favorite type of photography: extreme macro pics of every day objects. Here are three of my favorites:

On every lamp post in Portland, fliers for concerts, classes, missing pets, etc. are stapled. This is one after the fliers have been removed. I love how the staples are slowly decaying.

I love this picture. It’s almost an abstract painting. From a distance, this wall of metal tiles looks almost completely smooth and shiny. But up close…amazing texture and color comes out.
“We should do this more often,” she said, giving me a squeeze.
I agree.
