Night Photography

“Hon, I know you’re playing your bass right now, but could you do it in the backyard in the dark for me?”

And because my husband is so cool, all he said was, “Sure.”

I’d been dying to play with some night photography with my new Canon 5d.  These were originally going to be lit only with a flashlight, but I only have one flashlight and it happens to be the head lamp I took with me to Burning Man.  Let’s just say the batteries did not enjoy the alkali dust and the whole thing had to get tossed.  So, instead I used a reading lamp with a 60watt bulb.

I shot most of these at ISO 1000, for those of you who are interested.  The quality stayed nice – not too grainy at all, and I was able to handhold all of these at 1/50th of a second & faster.

Awe, look at that studly redhead.

He absolutely loves his orange schecter 5-string bass.  A worthwhile birthday present I believe.

There’s the little reading lamp!  Thanks, IKEA:).
