Thanks so much for coming back to check out the first Giveaway!
I so appreciate all of you, old faithful readers and brand new ones. I would not have a blog if it weren’t for you. I remember when I first started blogging, I felt like I was putting my images and my words out in a black hole no one was ever going to see! It’s so encouraging to see more and more new people coming to visit, and I love hearing from you. As hard as I try not to “need” positive feedback, I can’t help but get excited about affirmation
. I read and treasure all of your emails and comments.
So, for the First Giveaway, I would like to bestow this little flower pin I made. It’s made from recycled silk, and three little buttons from my inherited vintage button collection. The edges are carefully singed with flame to keep them from unraveling, and give it that vintage ruffled look. I gave a very similar flower to Amelia Lyon this month, so if you win this you can be twinsies with one of my favorite photographers
. I’m such a dork.
Here is the flower. . .

Julie - There is nothing wrong with being a dork. You are an amazing photographer.
Michelle - Love your work. Recommending you to all that I know. Only 3 more years till our 15th anniversary so we can justify pics again.
Hmm,nice thing done to/for me? My sister has recently taken up extreme couponing & grocery shopping. The kind where you find items that end up being free or nearly free. She is always thoughtful to pick up items that I enjoy as well. I am most looking forward to the grape nuts this week!

Katie - Great new blog, Heather!
You’ve been very generous with me, with your handmade gifts and crafts, letting me borrow your sewing machine (which I am still LOVING… it’s helped rekindle some major creative sparks with me!), sharing your photography and your friendship. I think I’ve also already won one of your blog giveaways, so the flower can go to someone else.
One nice thing? Hmm. It’s hard to choose. Probably receiving flowers unexpectedly after putting in lots of hard work to help out a stranger.
MomWie - A few days ago I was having all kinds of health issues and buried in work and generally depressed and lost. A friend, who was also having MAJOR health issues just showed up at my house (and trust me, this person was in an incredible amount of pain at the time) and ‘caught’ me curled up in bed feeling sorry for myself and miserable. Instead of platitudes or lectures on “positive thinking”, I got a big hug and an absolutely perfect little weed flower that my friend had found on the way over. Made my day!
alisa - love it. LOVE. IT. fun. colorful. clean. LOVE IT!
the other day my brother-in-law helped with the dishes. there is a god
Erica McNelly - A wonderful friend told me this year in conversation how much she loved me. I’ve been thinking about it for awhile now. So many times, we tend to take relationships and friendships for granted and just assume that people know how we feel about them. Well, this wonderful lady made the point to tell me that she loved me dearly and why. It made me cry. So now I’ve decided not to take time for granted and always let my friends and family know that I love them, even if it’s a mere “I love you” at the end of a phone conversation or “I’m thinking about you” or “I miss you” text message.
Heather - It’s a vintage Viewfinder
.
Rachel Morell - Oh Heather! It’s all so beautiful and sparkly clean! You and your photos and posts and artsy things have been such an inspiration to me. I want to get to know you more this year!
This Christmas, we had a “Hideously Red & Green” party. My best friend, whom I hadn’t seen for 2 months wasn’t able to make it, but was continuously sending me texts asking how the prep was going, etc… After one final message confirming that she wasn’t coming as her parents were home from Kenya in Seattle, she called me, mostly laughing but on the verge.
She had borrowed a friend’s suburban to drive from Seattle and had the transmission blow in Kelso. She hitchhiked to the bus station on to find out that there wasn’t a bus coming. She then walked to the train station to discover that the current train had broken down and another one wouldn’t come for 2 hours. She was super bummed that she had to break the surprise but showed up at our party with a smile and a hideous red sweater a few hours later! She knew how much it meant to me to have her there and practically lost her mind to get here.
Kim - Beautiful design, Heather! I was looking forward to seeing this all day. (I just left it up on the computer and kept refreshing until you “launched”.)
My husband, Jeff, was an all-star last night. He stayed w/our kiddos (including a very colic-y newborn) and let me go running to de-stress after a stressful doctor day with the kids. When I returned the kitchen was clean, dishes washed, and (best of all!)both icky, stinky diaper pails were emptied. My hero!
If that doesn’t motivate me to pass it on, I don’t know what would.
Kate Guthrie - One nice thing that someone has said to me was my niece when she was four and told me that she was proud to call me her aunt, and I have to say that I am so thankful for all my nieces and nephews they are truly my inspiration in life!
Leah - I have already benefited from your craftiness, so I want the pin to go to someone else. However, I wanted to say congratulations on a beautiful new blog and logo. I’m looking forward to all the wonderful pictures that will be on this blog. Something nice my husband did for me recently is clean the entire house while I was sick. Hooray again for this new blog!
Trish Jones - Looking great Heather
Nicest thing – given birth to me LOL My man and my son gave me money for my birthday to go get my hair done and have a facial and they made me stay out for the day and decorated the house and cooked me a home cooked meal, was the best day ever… has never happened since that was about 8 years ago!
Brenna Witherspoon - You are SO wonderful and I love everything about this blog!!
well I have a lot of very amazing people in my life who bless me more than I think they know. One of the nicest things that I experienced in this past few months is a note from my boss (a text actually) saying “I wish there were more people like you
”… I was feeling particularly down on myself and though it was a simple text and simple words, it meant the world to me. It’s crazy to me to think of how simple it is to share simple words yet make a HUGE impact! it should really happen more often. (I still have the text)
LOVE the blog Heather. keep up the amazing work!
Diana - p.s. LOVE the flower!
Diana - Love the new logo! Great way to keep it the same, but freshen it up
Also, the blog, that is my new year’s business resolution. I’m actually meeting with someone tomorrow who will be helping me with it, so this peek at yours has been inspiring.
Something nice someone has done for me recently. My 3 year old came in while I was working to rub lotion on my feet (or as he calls it “wo-wosh”. He is pure love.
Grandpa Bob - Great blog, Heather! Congratulations! That picture of the red circular slide viewer at the top of the page. What was that called? They were manufactured in Beaverton, and I used to translate them into Spanish. The pay was very good. I wish I could go back to that job. The nice thing that someone did for me (us) was giving us a wonderful photo album of Grandma and me in the Heirloom Rose Gardens, with photos by Heather. Thank you!
Brandon Buerkle - One really nice thing someone has done for me is utilize my design services to craft her logo… and then continually give me props and even come back for more. Thanks, Heather!
(Nitpick: it was actually 1920′s to 1940′s inspired, but it appears to carry over nicely to the ’50s too.)
Amber - Congratulations on the new blog! It is definitely fun
I came across your work through a friend that I met while attending a wedding in Texas. I only wish that I lived closer, so I could have you do our family pictures! I love to take pictures, and I am definitely just learning. I love landscapes and taking pictures of my kids.
My nice thing that someone has done for me: I had a cold a few days ago and didn’t feel much like doing anything. My husband cleaned up the kitchen, made all my favorite foods for dinner and all around pampered me for a full day. As a mom, that usually gives out the pampering, it was lovely to be so well taken care of!
Best of luck with the new launch! I really do love it!
Julia - On our first Christmas as a couple, Danny gave me The Last Unicorn on DVD. I had told him how it was my very favorite movie as a super girly little girl and that I didn’t even think you could buy or rent it anymore. He randomly saw it at some store and knew it was the perfect gift. Like the total wimpy girly baby that I am…I cried. He pretty much refuses to watch it as there are many songs by America paired with Unicorns and princes and other such things. I think he’s afraid of turning into a girl if he watches it…but that’s ok, that makes it all the more special that my “manly man” put his “manliness” aside to purchase it all by his lonesome self! I’m sure he must have bought some beef jerky and a pair of manly overalls at the same time to balance out the purchase.
Taylor - I love the pin! It also kind of looks like a bird’s nest.
hm… something nice…
My friend bought me an umbrella that looks like a frog for no special occasion just because she saw it and knows I love frogs. I use it everytime it rains!
