I am back from an absolutely delicious holiday season full of friends and family.  One of my favorite things about December this year was getting to create a winter wonderland in our living-room.  I had to move the bed out anyway [I'm going to be re-painting the bedroom], so we decided to take advantage of getting to sleep next to the Christmas tree!  It’s been so cheerful and cozy, we may just leave it this way for a couple more weeks. . .

It just so happens that Friday is the day Lensbaby sent me a brand new Composer Pro.  I got a very sweet email from them a couple days ago, about the work I did on the Woodland Creatures photoshoot using the lensbaby 3G.  They are having a contest for lensbaby senior photographers and wanted to see if I had anything to enter.  Sadly, my original is broken and I didn’t get it back into them before my warranty expired, so I didn’t have any other images to send them.  They offered to send me the Composer Pro so I could try it for a couple months and see how I like it.

I love it!  It’s much easier to work with than the earlier model I had.  It’s manual focus of course, so it’s going to take some practice, but I love the toy-camera feel I can get using it on my Canon 5D.  I’m super excited to break it out for some shots during weddings and portrait sessions.  Here are a few of my favorites from our date in Portland.  And there’s actually a picture of ME in here, thanks to my husband.

Movies: Beginners, Bridesmaids [yes, we watched TWO!  For less than it cost to watch ONE at a regal cinema ;) ]

]]> http://espanaphotography.com/blog/2011/08/17/bumming-around-brooklyn/feed/ 0 Carrie | NW Nutrition http://espanaphotography.com/blog/2011/08/09/carrie-nw-nutrition/ http://espanaphotography.com/blog/2011/08/09/carrie-nw-nutrition/#comments Tue, 09 Aug 2011 15:16:54 +0000 Heather http://espanaphotography.com/blog/?p=3311 Where to begin?  Let’s just say Carrie has had a huge impact on my life, and all in a good way.  As many of you know from a previous post on the subject, my health has been a big project for the last three years [well, longer really].  The first two years were extremely difficult, and very frustrating.  I was on very limited calories, doing rigorous hour and a half workouts at the gym almost every day.  I had a list of symptoms as long as I am tall, but could not for the life of me figure out what I was doing wrong.  I was doing what you’re “supposed” to do: eat less, exercise more.  After two years I had little to show for my efforts, and I actually felt sicker than when I started.  I started working with Carrie, and changed – quite literally – everything.  She is so encouraging, knowledgeable, and always ready to help.  I have been working with her for almost nine months, and am blown away by how many of my symptoms were linked to food.

 

Needless to say, I was honored to be able to photograph Carrie!  She needs some new photos for her business, so we met up in her little garden.  You can get an idea of how she practices what she preaches: I didn’t tell her I wanted to do a basket of food.  These are all fresh fruits and veggies she already had in her house ;) .

I am easily entertained, which is both a blessing and a curse.  This picture is reminding me of the many jobs I have had as a multi-interests creature.  My nicer friends and relatives call it “talented.”  I call it dabbling.  I dabbled in so many different ideas for who I could be and what I could do. . . I’ve been a cook, a housekeeper, an art teacher, a fire dancer/instructor, a gardener, and I even designed and made hats for kids at one point.  When I first started really working as a photographer, it was different.  I’m an all-or-nothing person, so I had thrown myself into a lot of other endeavors before, but nothing had ever fit completely right.  Photography fit.

It’s been about six years since I got started in this industry, and I’m still so passionate about it that I’ll stay up until 3am working on something for my business because I’m just that excited about what I do.  And yes, I still dabble.  I have other passions and distractions, but this — this is my focus.  Thank goodness.
